Forget eBay and multiple affïliate programs. Whether you are a work-at-home mom trying to make a little extra cäsh or an Internet entrepreneur with hundreds of monetized websites, AdSense is truly the easiest way to earn monëy.
Simply sign up for a frëe account, grab your ad code and paste it in your site. But here's the amazing thing - no matter how much monëy AdSense is making for you right now, a few simple tweaks can increase that amount considerably. And I should know, after learning about these tricks, I more than doubled my AdSense commissions!

The self-proclaimed AdSense gurus and experts are sharing this insider knowledge, for a fee.

Editorial Note: Some of the website AdSense examples provided below by the author may have changed since the article was written.

You can learn all these secrets from them, as long as you buy their e-book, sign up for their seminar or purchase their newsletter. But I'm going to share all their AdSense tricks for frëe. Here they are:

1) Color code your ads to match your web site palette *exactly*. Don't use frames around your ads. Instead, in the AdSense code generation interface, make sure you choose the same color as your page background for the ad frame and the ad background.

When choosing the ad heading colors, match them to the *exact* color of your page headings. Use the exact same ad background shade as your page background. Use the exact same ad text font and color as the text on your pages. You can see an example of this color-matching on my Search Engine Advice Blog - notice the 4 link ad unit at the top and the skyscraper text ad unit on the left hand side under the heading Ads by Google as you scroll down the page? The link and text colors are identical to the color palette used throughout the rest of the page.

Near enough is NOT good enough. If you can't quite get the color matching right, use Google's built in color palette together with the RGB to HEX or vice versa color converter on this page - http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/Style. That handy little tool was a life saver for me.

This is probably the one single tweak that made the most difference to my commission levels.

2) Try not to use the traditional horizontal banner style or leaderboard image ads because people are blind to them.

3) Use Google's own AdSense optimization tips and visual heat map to assist you in deciding where on your page to place your AdSense ad code.

4) Research competitive keywords using a keyword research tool such as Keyword Discovery or grab a list of the most popular keywords from various sources and use them in your web site pages where relevant. This article - http://searchenginewatch.com/facts/article.php/2156041 - is a good source of frequently searched keywords. Targeting popular keywords should trigger AdSense ads on your pages that utilize those keywords. The more popular the keyword or phrase, the higher AdWords advertisers are generally willing to pay-per-click for it so the higher your commission on those clicks.

5) Incorporate the AdSense code into your page so that the ads look like a regular part of your site. You can see an example on this Internet Dating Stories site - http://www.lovestory.com.au - where link ads are incorporated within the regular left hand navigation of the site under the heading "Sponsor Links". 6) Use Google's new 4 and 5 link ad units wherever possible. They seem to have a much higher Click-Through-Rate (CTR) than regular ad styles. You can view all the AdSense ad formats at https://www.google.com/adsense/adformats.

7) Place arrows or images next to your ads to draw attention to them. You can see two different versions on this search engine article library page - http://www.searchenginecollege.com/articles/article-library.htm - at the top (where a pointing hand directs your eye to the ad) and the bottom where 3 images draw your attention to each of the three AdSense ads.

8) Use the full allowance of multiple AdSense ads on each of your pages - 3 regular AdSense ads, plus 1 link unit. Use careful placement of these ads so they blend into your site and don't distract from your content. Clever use of this allowance can be seen on this page about bad Internet dating stories - http://www.lovestory.com.au/bad-stories.htm - where you see:

1 horizontal 4 link ad unit towards the top of the page under the first paragraph.
1 vertical skyscraper text ad unit about halfway down the left hand side under "Sponsor Links".
1 vertical skyscraper image ad unit down the left hand side under "Sponsor Links".
1 horizontal text banner unit at the bottom of the page with images above each ad to draw attention to them.
You can also include 1 AdSense referral button in addition to the 3 other units.

9) Tailor your page content to a particular niche or focus. Page content that is tailored towards a specific theme is more likely to trigger AdWords ads that closely match the content and are therefore more likely to interest your visitors and inspire them to clíck.

Don't create pages merely for the sake of placing AdSense ads. Visitors (and search engines) can see through this ruse in an instänt.

10) Use custom Ad Channels for each of your ad placements, for example, "Top 5 Link Unit Blue Palette" or "Left Side Navigation Image Skyscraper" etc. Tweak, track and measure the success of each of these custom channels so you know what gives you the highest CTR. Some ad formats and colors will work better than others, but you won't know which until you test, test and test some more!

High yield invest Program(HYIP)

HYIP stands for High Yield Investment Program. HYIPs are investment programs normally offered via the Internet. HYIPs are popular because they typically accept investments of $100 or less while offering high returns. The introduction of e-currencies such as e-gold and StormPay (although almost all HYIPs do not use StormPay as of February 2006, see StormPay article for why) has made it easy for HYIPs to operate across international boundaries, and to accept large numbers of small investments.

Many HYIPs have turned out to be scams. Scam HYIPs are Ponzi schemes, in which new investors provide the cash to pay a profit to existing investors, which they could then withdraw leaving nothing to pay the new investor. This approach allows the scam to continue as long as new investors are found and/or old investors leave their money in the scheme, known as compounding (because even higher profits are promised).

The turnover in HYIPs is high. For example, one website that links potential investors to active HYIPs has a "blacklist" of more than 500 HYIPs that have gone out of business.

HYIPs are frequently advertised in spam emails, forums or mailing lists, since people are typically given a commission (for example, 9% of invested funds) when they provide a referral of a new customer.

HYIPs typically are not based in the United States, Europe, or Japan - countries that have strong laws against unregistered investment programs. HYIPs disclose little or no detail about the principals, management, location, or other aspects of whom is getting the money to be invested, and relatively little information (other than asserting that they do various types of trading on various stock and other exchanges) on how their investment programs actually work

HYIPs typically claim to offer interest rates of 1% or more per day on invested funds; many claim to offer much higher daily rates reaching 250% a day, and these are definitely ponzi schemes. Sometimes even higher profits such as 700% daily are promised, but these are fairly obvious scams where money deposited will be "stolen" by the operator.

Such high interest rates raise the question: why would any business that can earn such profits, legitimately, bother to look for small investors? Such unusually high yields should tip off investors that there are serious risks involved.

As a result of online forums and monitoring sites which have made customers of HYIPs more aware of the risks they are taking, many "honest" HYIPs have sprung up in the early months of 2006. Basically, the HYIP owner calls his or her program a "ponzi-structured game" where one should "not invest money one cannot afford to lose", and where there is "never a guarantee of earnings or refunds". They promise to pay out up to (e.g.) 95% of deposits, the rest going to hosting or other fees and the admin's profit. The first investors will make a handsome profit and are encouraged to refer other people to the program by referral commission, the fact that they have already made back their principal and are playing with profit, and that the more people who deposit money, the more money can be paid out to investors. Strategies can be developed to maximize profit using these games. Forum users can gain a reputation whereby others will trust their word that they have been able to withdraw, encouraging others to invest in the hopes that more will invest after them and that they can therefore make a profit

By : Wikipedia

Affiliate Marketing program

Affiliate Marketing is a popular method of promoting web businesses in which an affiliate is rewarded for every visitor, subscriber and/or customer provided through his efforts. It is a modern variation of the practice of paying finder's-fees for the introduction of new clients to a business. Compensation may be made based on a certain value for each visit (Pay per click), registrant (Pay per lead), or a commission for each customer or sale (Pay per Sale), or any combination.

The most attractive aspect of affiliate marketing, from the merchant's viewpoint, is that with this pay for performance model, no payment is due to an affiliate until results are realized.

Some e-commerce sites run their own affiliate programs while other e-commerce vendors use third party services provided by intermediaries to track traffic or sales that are referred from affiliates. Some businesses owe much of their growth and success to this marketing technique, although research has shown in general the increase to be approximately 15-20% of online revenue.

Some advertisers offer multi-tier affiliate programs that distribute commission into a hierarchical referral network of sign-ups and sub-affiliates. In practical terms: publisher "A" signs up the affiliate program with an advertiser and gets rewarded for the agreed activity conducted by a referred visitor. If publisher "A" attracts other publishers ("B", "C", etc.) to sign up for the same affiliate program using her sign-up code all future activities by the joining publishers "B" and "C" will result in additional, lower commission for publisher "A".

Snowballing, this system rewards a chain of hierarchical publishers who may or may not know of each others' existence, yet generate income for the higher level signup. Most affiliate programs are simply one-tier.

Merchants who are considering adding an affiliate strategy to their online sales channel should research the different technological solutions available to them. Some types of affiliate management solutions include: standalone software, hosted services, shopping carts with affiliate features, and third party affiliate networks.

In its early days many internet users held negative opinions of affiliate marketing due to the tendency of affiliates to use spam to promote the programs in which they were enrolled. As affiliate marketing has matured many affiliate merchants have refined their terms and conditions to prohibit affiliates from spamming.

Currently there is much debate around the affiliate practice of Spamdexing and many affiliates have converted from sending email spam to creating large volumes of autogenerated webpages each devoted to different niche keywords as a way of SEOing their sites with the search engines. This is sometimes referred to as spamming the search engine results. Spam is the biggest threat to organic Search Engines whose goal is to provide quality search results for keywords or phrases entered by their users. Google's algorithm update dubbed "Big Daddy" in February 2006 which was the final stage of Google's major update dubbed "Jagger" which started mid-summer 2005 specifically targeted this kind of spam with great success and enabled Google to remove a large amount of mostly computer generated duplicate content from its index.

Optimizing for Rankings - Things to Do and Avoid

Search engine optimization is a much-debated topic and there is a lot of different on the net. Let's cut through the muck and discuss things you should and shouldn't pursue to get high rankings.
Before blasting into the subject, we need to define optimization. It simply refers to the manipulation of a site to gain top rankings on the three search engines that dominate the search traffic on the net - Yahoo, Google and MSN. If you do a search on Google, the optimized listings are found in the large section on the left hand side of the page. These are often referred to as organic rankings since you don't pay for placement. Of course, you manipulated the page for optimization, but we will stick with organic as a name.

The first optimization tip is the most basic and the one many people screw up. Pick the correct keywords for your site! The correct keywords are not what you personally think based on your knowledge of your service or product. They are not the phrases returned in the Overture inventory tool. The only place you will find the exact keyword phrases you should use are in Wordtracker. The site gives you an analytical tool that provides the exact keyword phrases being used by your prospects, how often they are being used and which are easiest to get high rankings on. It costs a whopping $8 for a single session, but you will want to get a year subscription so you can pick up different cycles of keywords. Your prospects will search for different things in summer compared to winter.
The second thing to consider is the isolation keyword strategy. Many people will try to cram as many keywords into a page as possible. The accepted standard is 10 to 15 words. This is an old approach that works, but it will take much longer to get high rankings. Instead, you should develop a list of as many keyword phrases as possible. A single page should be made for each keyword phrase. You should never have to pick one keyword phrase instead of another for your site. Instead, you should make individual pages for each phrase.
A major third optimization tip is interlinking. The links from one page of your site to another matter a lot. When you create a link, make sure the link is the anchor text for the page the prospect will be going to. Anchor text is simply the keyword phrase on that page

Turning to things you should avoid in optimization, well, there are a lot. Do not put your site name in your meta title, the search engines will list you high without it. Do not skimp on text, you need at least 250 words per page. Do not put database parameters in your urls because spiders have problems reading them. Stay away from flash as much as possible for the same reason. Stick to a single subject per page, to wit, do not wonder around like a drunken web designer! For the love of God, do not use frames. Finally, keep your html code streamlined so search engines can read it with ease.
The list of things to do and avoid is nearly endless. Follow these simple steps, however, and you will see marked improvement in your rankings.

About the Author: Halstatt Pires is a search engine optimization specialist with MarketingTitan.com - Internet marketing and advertising company in San Diego. It cuts across the grain of some notions we've held in the industry for some time, that there are shortcuts aplenty in the hunt for better search rankings. Search experts at ICMediaDirect.com dissuade clients from thinking that they can or should fool Google and Yahoo. Instead, we show them solid methodology that works. Above all else, your website needs superior content that anchors your search engine optimization strategy.
Algorithmic innovation, much of it by Google's engineers, has thankfully rendered search engine spamming a fruitless endeavor. This has made the search engine a far greater tool for us to use and, in turn, has sparked the online advertising industry.

Nevertheless, Google and other search engines closely guard their Search secrets. Their constant tweaking compels smart webmasters to not rely on keyword strategy alone. Your site must be prepared to weather the ensuing fallout from any change in web-crawler browsing instigated by their engineers in those far-off, unseen laboratories. Any quest for keyword perfection is folly by nature, since that success is fleeting.
Search engines take link relevancy into account when ranking webpages. As a search engine optimizer it's important for you to keep your "white hat" on. This means, for the uninitiated, that instead of spamdexing or deceiving the search engine through trickery, you employ ethical means to achieve ranking. Crime doesn't pay in the search world because deceptive sites get shown the door and no site can afford to pay that price.
Google recently caught BMW's websites gaming the system and the company's sites were essentially blacklisted from the results listings. Did BMW not have enough confidence in the quality of their cars and motorcycles or was their online optimizer getting too cute? No matter, it's BMW's problem; one nobody needs to have.
Your white hat optimization entails shoring up whatever online relationships you can with other sites for link exchange, promoting your site with new ones for more link exchange, and joining web directories. This is not an instantaneous process, like most SEO work, but it is indispensable for your long-term online planning.
After dashing any notion of SEO trickery from our repertoire we focus on content. Content requires actual work, anathema, perhaps, to those seeking quick rewards with no effort, but this work pays off. You're charged with producing fresh, relevant content that - gulp - someone might even want to read!
I've yet to hear of a web crawling spider that purchases anything online. Until this starts happening (hey, we rule out nothing at ICMediaDirect.com), you should start writing (or rewriting) your website's content with an ideal reader in mind: your customer. For instance, if you're marketing rock-climbing gear, sell that helmet, weave the thrill of the sport into your language and not a language of sugar and carrots you believe will attract Google or Yahoo. Be genuine.
State the aim of your site's business by using clear and direct language early in your text, or "up there" on the page. Indirectness or misleading intros may not only divert the attention of people and cause them to leave, but the same for web crawlers, too. State your business early. Remember: simple beats complex in the SEO arena.
The goal is to win people over. It bears repeating that loading text with a barrage of related keywords that doesn't keep with a natural flow of language is not going to work, on any level. Did you know that search engines can pick out the poor structural balance in language? They actually pick out overly optimized sites. Those flagged sites can go fish because their ranking is then shot. The lesson here is to work with the system.
Now your content is written. After having a second (and third) person read it over to find any inaccuracies or grammar mistakes, you supplement its structure. It's time to optimize the text with keywords. But not too much. While it's okay for a reader to notice repeats of a word throughout the written content, it's too much when it distracts from the message. Use keywords at the beginning, end, and in header text. Review your text and see where you might re-work some more keywords. Be creative and thorough in these efforts and do not to exceed a 20:1 prose-to-keyword ratio within the copy.
Search algorithms scan text, not pictures. Therefore, it's important to front-load relevant text onto your homepage, even to a point where you might think there's too much text. Don't worry about that. Remember that first time visitors to your webpage who come via search engine are arriving because they're looking for something specific. Your homepage isn't a billboard attracting the attention of motorists. Your objective is to "close" on those already interested. If they're not ready to read a couple of paragraphs, they're not ready to buy.
This isn't to say that images are unimportant. They can actually be a tremendous search resource. You should slip in keywords when filling out your image's alternate text description. Make them fit the keywords of your site and try to have the description of the pictures match the keywords, as well. This way "Image Search" functions of search engines will provide any number of interested queries. This is an area that is a) not nearly as optimized as text and b) increasing in aggregate search numbers. A well optimized image selection for your site could pay off serious dividends, while random descriptions for your imagery will fritter this chance away.

Spellcheck. Use it, that's what it's there for. There is no excuse for a poorly written website that smacks of amateurism. Sloppy efforts tend to spook page viewers from doing business. If you're not up to writing articles for whatever reason, you can hire a professional copywriter for the job. ICMediaDirect.com has them, if need be, one shouldn't be hard to find.
Any expense taken in regards to your website is a mere pittance when compared to the disparity in value between a well-written site and a poorly written one. Website quality is too important for a business to trifle with. A good web copywriter is well-versed in keyword utilization and can make your specific directives look natural and effortless.
Search engines are getting smarter almost daily and continue to level the playing fields in the process. Subsequently, Search Engine Optimization has turned away from gamesmanship and towards crafting quality websites. Those who put in extra effort will be the ones to reap the long-term SEO benefits and, ultimately, more business.
Good luck.

About the Author: Joseph Pratt Media type='text'>adsense tips

By Sharon Housley

AdSense allows website publishers to display contextually relevant advertisements on their website. If a web visitor "clicks" on an advertisement, the web publisher will earn a percentage of the advertising revenue generated as a result of the clïck. Many webmasters have built content websites around the Google AdSense model. In many cases the specific intent of the webmaster is to profït from Google AdSense. Other webmasters use Google AdSense to supplement their revenue. Regardless of the webmaster's intent, the following tips will help webmasters looking to profït from AdSense

Top AdSense Tips:

1. Niche Sites
Targeted niche sites that have a clear theme, tend to generate more advertising revenue simply because it is easier for these sites to achieve decent search engine placement. Be warned though, you want to choose a niche where there is a sufficient number of advertisements available.

2. Target Keywords
When determining the site's focus, consider how much advertisers pay for the advertisements. If the site is focused on ringtones, like Ringtone Central http://www.ringtones-central.com the payout per-click is going to be very small because ringtones are not high ticket items and advertisers will not spend a lot on pay-per-click advertisements. With less obvious markets use Overture to determine how much advertisers pay-per-keyword. It is usually similar on Google. Search Overture for a keyword then clïck "View Advertisers' Max Bids" in the top right corner. This will show the Overture inventory and how much is paid per keyword. Because the market has become very competitive, it is difficult to rank well in search engines with a new website that is optimized for the terms that have the highest payout. Consider targeting terms that are moderately priced.

3. Aged Sites / Time
Over time as a website is spidered by Google, advertisements will generally increase in relevance. In general, older websites will rank better in search engines. The closer the advertisements relate to the webpage's content; the higher the "click-through" the publishers will see.

4. Coding
In order to minimize a website's maintenance place the Google generated AdSense code in the website template or an include file. This will allow you to easily experiment with different advertisement sizes and ad placement, and keep web maintenance to a minimum.

5. Tracking Channels
In order to know how effective a specific website or ad placement is, use distinct channels and subchannels within Google. This will allow you to discern what performs best on a specific website. Using channels will tell you what sites are making monëy, what advertisements are making monëy and what ad position is the most profitable on a specific website. Keep in mind that you should run an advertisement for a full week, in order to properly test its effectiveness. Different days of the week will have varying web traffïc, so comparing one week to another will give the most accurate reflection of how effective a campaign performs.

The same is true when testing different advertisement sizes, placement or color schemes. Be sure to leave campaigns in place for one week. Again, different days will often result in web traffïc fluctuations. Comparing web traffïc, week to week will give a clear indication of what ad formats perform the best.

6. Integrated Ad Placement
Many webmasters have been successful at integrating advertisements into a website. The easiest way to integrate an advertisement into a website is to remove the advertisement border. This will allow the ads to better blend with the webpage. Google recommends contrasting the link colors with the website colors to increase click-throughs. It is also suggested that webmasters randomize the color of the advertisements, so that frequent users will not naturally "filter" the ads.

Examples of integrated ad placement:
http://www.golf-clubhouse.net or
http://www.security-protection.net

7. Number vs Value of Advertisements
Place up to three advertisements on each page. Additional advertisements drop in value and dilute ad inventory so publishers should be cautious in adding more advertisement units. In other words you want to serve the most expensive ads at all times.

8. Hot Spots
Like web copy, above the fold holds true with AdSense as well. This means that advertisements that appear without having to scroll will be read more frequently. Hot Spots are areas on a web page that result in a higher percentage of click-throughs. According to Google the highest paying advertisements are located on the hot spots.

Hot Spots Map:
http://www.small-business-software.net/heat-map.htm

Google does not indicate if image advertisements or text ads perform better, so webmasters are encouraged to experiment with both.

9. Highest Performing Ad Sizes
According to Google the 336 x 280 rectangle, the 300 x250 rectangle and the 160 x 600 sky scraper result in the highest number of click-throughs. Depending on the website's design and layout, publishers may experience different results with different ad sizes, placements and color schemes. Expirement and track the results for each website to maximize the AdSense payout.

About The Author
Sharon Housley manages marketing for FeedForAll software for creating, editing, publishing RSS feeds and podcasts.
